Another post from the United States as we have just returned from Miami and the Keys . Once in Miami you must rent a car here because it is almost impossible to move without, unlike cities like NY or Chicago. Miami is a unique city: it offers less than other cities for museums and cultural events but it does have its peculiarities. In fact, Miami is really like a combination of several cities: in particular, the art deco district of Miami Beach is certainly to be seen. Miami Beach is one of the islands in front of the downtown Miami and is the fun part, to the beaches by day and night for the trendy. Then there is another island, Key Biscane , which instead is very residential but has some beaches and a beautiful view of downtown Miami. Then there is precisely Downtown Miami, which is part of the larger hotels and finance. Instead without skyscrapers Little Havana, the Cuban district where you can sample local cuisine and buy cigars!
Please stop in Miami suggest searching hotels in Miami Beach where you can leave your car parked and take a walk along the paths rich with different humanity.
Leaving Miami we headed to the Everglades to visit the marshes. Here to visit include nature parks where you can take a ride on the classic boat Airboat which provide a unique experience provided you are not frightened by insects (especially dragonflies giants!). A close encounter with a crocodile is guaranteed!
We then moved to the Keys, the islands are connected by bridges over these enormous sea. The first stop was in Key Largo where we visited the John Pennekamp Park where we toured with the glass-bottomed boat to see the reef in calm and relaxation. We stayed at ' Amoray , very welcoming. Then we moved on the tip directly to Key West that, unlike the other towns on the nearby islands, is truly a very welcoming country. Different things to see: we have limited ourselves to the home of Ernest Hemingway , the local train ride on and the museum of local traditions . Do not get a margarita and then fail to Sloppy Joe, who attended the local Hemingway. We chose to stay Wicker Guesthouse (that we can recommend the excellent quality / price / location) on Duval Street, the main street.
We also visited the Ripley's museum , not just local, but always fun. Take a trip to the Southernmost point (just 90 miles from Cuba) for a souvenir photo. Things to buy here: funny t-shirts, cigars for everyone, all products' aloe, and margaritas at will (so they are lightweight) to be consumed on the spot!
And we get to our magnet. The Pink Flamingo is a bit 'the symbol of this part of the United States and we were very torn about which to choose: we opted for this in the picture and has a palm tree with leaves made of cloth and a flamingo with sunglasses sun posing very relaxed. I hope you like it!
